Mbombela Stadium will host its first MTN8 final in nine years when Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch lock horns on Saturday, 13 September. The fixture is scheduled to kick off at 18:00 with Soweto Giants billed as hosts on the day.
The two finalists from the previous edition of the competitions are once again the last two teams standing. They secured their spots in the final over the past weekend when Pirates overcame Mamelodi Sundowns on penalties at Lucas Moripe Stadium, while Stellenbosch later went on to complete a 3-1 win on aggregate in their tie against Sekhukhune United.
The weekend’s results set up another exciting match-up between the two sides, who met in the 2024 final where the Buccaneers clinched a third consecutive title after fighting from a goal down to register a 3-1 win at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The return to Mbombela will hold some pleasant memories for the Soweto Giants, who have recently contested a final at the 2010 World Cup venue. They defeated Sundowns in the 2023/24 Nedbank Cup finale, retaining their title in the process.
Stellenbosch will meanwhile see it as an opportunity to exact revenge against the side responsible for them falling on the last hurdle in their quest for a maiden MTN8 title.
More will be on the line as the two sides who have built a solid rivalry in recent years cross paths in Top Eight competition for the third season running.
Ticket information will be communicated by the League in due course.
