Affectionately known as “Ben-10”, Simphiwe Selepe is part of an exciting pool of young talent that has emerged from the Bucs Academy ranks in recent years. The Tsakane native is primarily a midfielder but can seamlessly slot in various positions defensively, making him a valuable squad member.
His journey with the Buccaneers kicked off ahead of the 2023/24 DStv Diski Challenge season, where he became a permanent feature in the starting eleven and impressed enough to score higher honours as he soon debuted for South Africa Under-20. Selepe’s first taste of first-team football came in December 2024 when he featured in the Carling All Stars team coached by Jose Riveiro.
The youngster made his senior debut for Pirates in the grandest of stages when he was introduced late in a 2-1 Soweto Derby victory in May 2025. He is determined to continue learning and refining certain aspects of his game in an effort to fully realise his potential.
